2008ع ۾ فيس بڪ ۽ ٽوئيٽر جهڙن رابطائي سرشتن جي ايجاد ٿيڻ سان عالمي سطح تي سياسي ۽ سماجي شخصيتن جي وچ ۾ واسطيداريون تمام گهڻيون وڌي ويون، ان کان علاوه عوامي دلچسپيءَ ۽ ونڊ ويچار سبب عالمي شخصيتن جا رايا عالمي عوامي راءِ تي پڻ اثرانداز ٿيڻ لڳا . آمريڪي صدر براڪ اوباما ان سهولت جو استعمال پنهنجي صدارتي چونڊن واري مهم دوران زبردست طريقي سان ڪيو . ان مثال کي دنيا جي ٻين سفارتڪارن به اختيار ڪيو ۽ عالمي سطح تي پنهنجا موقف بيان ڪرڻ ۾ ڪاميابي ماڻي . جيتوڻيڪ دنيا ۾ ٻيون به تمام گهڻيون ويب سائيٽون آهن ، پر پنهنجي وسيع سرشتي جي ڪري فيس بڪ سڀني کان اڳڀري آهي . هن اصطلاح جو اصل مقصد سماجي رابطن جي هن نرم سگهه (Soft Power) ذريعي غير جمهوري حڪومتن ۽ دهشتگرد ٽولن خلاف عالمي عوامي راءِ کي سگهارو ڪرڻ ۽ ڀائيچارو وڌائڻ آهي .
